Fear

This month’s theme is fear. We’re going to look at it from a few different angles, but I wanted to start off with my feelings on it.

I take a different stance than many when it comes to fear: I am thankful for it.

Don’t get me wrong, I am irritated by it – sometimes incredibly frustrated by it. It’s caused me to stumble and frozen me more times in my life than I’d care to admit.

But I am thankful anyway.

Fear doesn’t understand big dreams and leaps of faith.

It doesn’t know the difference between the butterflies in your stomach when you’re falling in love and the butterflies in your stomach when you’re falling off a cliff.

Fear is not trying to hinder us. It’s not trying to ruin our lives.

Quite the opposite.

Fear is trying to save us.

Fear loves us and wants us to be safe.

Let’s face it, humans are prone to doing some amazingly, mmm – not well thought out things sometimes.

If our ancestors didn’t pay attention to their fear our species would not have made it very far. I’m sure many of them look at our antics now and wonder how much longer the species will survive honestly.

In short, if fear didn’t exist, neither would we.

Fear has its place. When you work with me, I don’t ask you not to feel it. I don’t ask you to ignore it.

I ask you to understand it.

What is it worried about? What does it think will happen if you do the thing? What does it think it’s protecting you from? Failure? Success? Rejection?

I teach you to feel the fear and do it anyway.

Because that’s the only way fear learns – by doing the thing anyway.

Then fear sees you didn’t die. Maybe you even enjoyed the leap!

Maybe new things aren’t as dangerous as it thought. Maybe it’s ok to try sometimes. Maybe the world is a safer place than it thought.

And that my friends is when your world really begins to open up and you get to start living the life you want.

That’s when the magic starts to happen.

In my program “Deconstructing Shadow” you’ll take fear (and so much more) head on. You’ll learn about where it’s rooted and how it began to grow, so you learn how to move forward and start building the life you’ve dreamed of.
